Rae-Line was started by Ray and Mary Vorhauer in 1972 and was known at that time as R.A. Vorhauer Manufacturing. The company was based in a 150 square metre factory in Malvern St. Bayswater in order to be close to their only customer at the time, Kenworth Trucks. The business grew slowly on the back of rising Kenworth build rates as well as an increased customer base. Ray designed a range of boat seats that were sold to both the public and several manufacturers including JJ Savage and Stejcraft Boats.

As the business grew, so did the number of employees and by 1975 the company employed 10 people. With both the Kenworth and the boat seating sides of the business continuing to grow, the company moved to bigger premises several times throughout the late seventies to mid eighties. By the late eighties, the company's name was changed to Rae-Line P/L, and employed around 20 employees. Rae-Line has continued to grow ever since, once again on the back of ever increasing build rates and an increased customer base, Today Rae-Line supplies some of the biggest names in the automotive, heavy transport, public transport and marines industries: including Holden, Ford, Kenworth and Iveco. Rae-Line currently employs 60 employees in both full time and permanent part time positions and is based in Kilsyth in a totally new manufacturing complex, occupying eight factories totalling over 5000 square metres.

In 2007, Rae-Line celebrated their 35th anniversary as a sole supplier to Kenworth Trucks Australia. 2007 was a record year for both Rae-Line and Kenworth, with build rates reaching 20 trucks per day and a total of 3496 trucks being built during the year. Rae-Line set new records for on-time delivery and quality, despite build rates rising to almost twice the previous record. this was only possible due to the hard work and dedication shown by the entire Rae-Line team, right throughout the year. As a company we are proud of our supply record to Kenworth and we look forward to continuing this mutually beneficial relationship long into the future.
