Victorian Gymnast Charlie Robbins has been crowned the winner of Season 3 of Australian Ninja Warrior after being the furthest and fastest ninja in last night’s Grand Final.

Charlie, a 21-year-old adult gymnast and from Peninsula Gymnastics in Rosebud, defeated fellow Peninsula Gymnasts Ashlin Herbert and Zak Stolz as well as 8 other contestants in the second part of the Grand Final to take out the mantle of Australian Ninja Warrior 2019.

“It’s been such a crazy experience, the word I’ve used a lot is surreal. It literally just doesn’t feel real. I don’t think it will feel real for a long time,” Chalie said after his Stage 3 run of the Grand Final Ninja Warrior course.
Despite being portrayed as a ‘Golf Ninja’ due to his passion for golf, Charlie has 15 years of Gymnastics training behind him which played a key part in his ninja success.

“Being able to swing on obstacles is the number one thing that helps you on the ninja course. Gymnastics teaches you how to generate swing which makes a massive difference in being able to conserve energy as you take on the ninja course,” said Charlie.

“This is one area that has really set the gymnasts apart from the other sportspeople and fitness professionals on Ninja Warrior.”

Charlie began doing KinderGym to develop fundamental movement skills as a four-year-old before spending several years competing in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics where his favourite apparatus were High Bar, Rings and Parallel Bars.

During high school Charlie joined the Peninsula Gymnastics Xtreme Teens recreational gymnastics program where the focus was on parkour-type gymnastics skills, before progressing to the Adult Gymnastics class which he is still a part of today.

Three years ago Charlie began coaching gymnastics as well; currently he coaches four nights a week at Peninsula Gymnastics focusing on trampoline gymnastics, recreational gymnastics, parkour style FreeG and Xtreme Teens.

Charlie believes working as a Gymnastics coach gave him another unique talent to help him as a Ninja Warrior.

“When you work as a Gymnastics coach you start to look at skills differently as opposed to when you are a gymnast. This coaching analysis was also really helpful with the obstacles on the ninja course.”

Peninsula Gymnastics Director Rebecca Robertson believes Charlie is a great role model for younger gymnasts.

“Charlie’s success is testament to his love of movement and how he has continued with gymnastics for the last fifteen years,” said Rebecca.

“He has a passion for movement, enjoys challenging himself and really embraces the social side of gymnastics with our other adult gymnasts and the athletes he coaches.”

Gymnastics Victoria CEO Jamie Parsons is thrilled to see the role Gymnastics has played in Charlie’s Ninja Warrior success.

“Many Ninja Warrior contestants are familiar to the Gymnastics community so it’s no surprise to us that Charlie did well because of his gymnastics background,” said Jamie.

“Gymnastics develops crucial fundamental movement skills and we look forward to training the next generation of ninja warriors in the variety of ninja gymnastics classes happening all across Victoria.”

Recently Rae-Line gathered together to hand out some service awards for four of our employees.

Both Pushpa Lalji and Laura Dean recently clocked up 5 years of service at Rae-Line.

Pushpa is part of our sewing team and Laura started as a sewer, become leading hand in that area before taking 12 months off for maternity leave. On her return, Laura has worked in a Manufacturing Admin role where she is responsible for producing all of the cutting markers for the cutting team.

Rob Moody who was presented with an award recognising his 15 years service at Rae-Line. Rob started as the delivery driver back in 2004 and then moved in to the Materials Coordinator role in 2008. While still in that role today, the role itself has changed greatly as Rae-Line has grown and Rob has grown with it. Rob plays a key part in Rae-Line’s desire to deliver on time, every time by ensuring the Production Team has all the materials they require to ensure we meet our customers sometimes challenging demands.

The final award presented today went to Michael Vorhauer. Michael started at Rae-Line in 1998 and this year clocked up 20 years of service after having nearly 12 months away from Rae-Line in 2017. Michael has performed multiple roles during his time at Rae-Line. He started in 1998 as an Upholsterer before moving in to the truck driving role. He then moved in to a Material Coordinator role before moving in to his current role as a Product Development Coordinator. Michael works closely with our major customer Kenworth Trucks and with over 20 years’ experience at Rae-Line, he has a wealth of knowledge that certainly benefits both Rae-Line and Kenworth.

Rae-Line would like to congratulate all 4 employees and thank them for the hard work and dedication that has certainly contributed to our success over the years.

Victorian gymnasts ready to go for Gold at the Australian Gymnastics Championships

Victoria’s best gymnasts are ready to take to the competition floor at the 2019 Australian Gymnastics Championships at Melbourne Arena.

The two-week competition is the biggest event on the Australian Gymnastics calendar and is a step towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for many Senior gymnasts.

Top gymnasts from every state and territory will come together in Melbourne to compete to be the Australian Champion in six different Gymsports. Athletes will compete in Women’s Artistic, Men’s Artistic, Rhythmic, Trampoline and Acrobatic Gymnastics and for the first time Aerobic Gymnastics will be joining the multi-sport competition.

The first week of competition features the Men’s Artistic and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, with the Senior International team finals taking place on Friday 24 May and Senior International individual finals happening on Sunday 26 May.

Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist on Floor Alex Eade will be competing in the Senior International Women’s Artistic Gymnastics competition on Friday 24 May, as will Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist on Vault Emily Whitehead. They will go up against the likes of other Medal winning Senior International gymnasts Georgia Godwin (QLD), Georgia-Rose Brown (QLD) and Emma Nedov (NSW).

Another Victorian to watch is Men’s Artistic Gymnast Tyson Bull who has recently competed at the Melbourne World Cup, Doha World Cup and Baku World Cup and achieved some fantastic results. Tyson placed fifth overall on High Bar at the Melbourne World Cup against a tough line-up of International competitors.

Gymnastics Victoria CEO Jamie Parsons has expressed his excitement about the upcoming Australian Gymnastics Championships.

“The 2019 Victorian State Team is one of the strongest teams we’ve had attending the National Championships, with some established Senior athletes and some promising up-and-coming gymnasts.

“The entire Victorian gymnastics community wishes our 2019 State Team the best of luck at the Australian Gymnastics Championships!” said Parsons.

This year, Gymnastics Victoria implemented the High Performance Plan for Women’s Artistic, Men’s Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics. The plan aims to help athletes, coaches and clubs succeed internationally as well as helping to prepare the next generation of elite level gymnasts.

“We expect to see some world-class performances from Victorian gymnasts in 2019 and we anticipate fantastic results from our athletes over the next few years,” said Parsons.

The Australian Gymnastics Championships begin on Monday 20 May and end on Monday 3 June. A full competition schedule can be found here.

Gymnastics Victoria celebrate achievements of 2018 at Family Ball & Awards Night

The Gymnastics Victoria Family Ball & Awards Night was held at Peninsula Docklands on Saturday 9 February 2019, where over 630 people from the Gymnastics community were in attendance to celebrate the achievements of 2018.

ABC News Breakfast Presenter Georgie Tunny was the MC for the evening, setting a professional yet light-hearted tone for the evening.

Awards were presented to athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and clubs who made outstanding contributions to the sport of Gymnastics in Victoria throughout 2018.

In his opening address, Chair of the Gymnastics Victoria Board Michael O’Neill reflected on the growth of Gymnastics over the past few years.

“Who would have thought 6 years ago with only 200 people at a little venue in Albert Park, that we’d have over 600 people here tonight in one of Melbourne’s most fantastic venues,” Michael said.

International Recognition Awards were presented to athletes, coaches and officials who represented the sport at the highest level throughout the year. Shadow Minister for Sport David Hodgett MP presented the awards to Commonwealth Games athletes Alex Eade, Emily Whitehead, Luke Wadsworth and Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva as well as Aerobics athletes Olivia Feaver and Annabel Muttdon who competed at the Aerobics World Championships.

The Paul Horvath SportsLawyer Club of the Year was chosen from the recipients of the Club of the Year awards, with Twisters Gymnastics winning the coveted title.

The final awards of the evening were the Club Awards that recognise the achievements of Victorian Gymnastics Clubs. The HR Plus Small Club of the Year was Swan Hill Gymnastics Club; True Blue Migration Medium Club of the Year was Fisherman’s Bend Gymnastics Club; OZ Trampolines Large Club of the Year was Peninsula Gymnastics and the Rae-Line Mega Club of the Year was Twisters Gymnastics.

Gymnastics Coaches were recognised at the Recreational, Competitive and the High Performance Level. Georgia Bonora and John Hart from Waverley Gymnastics Centre were named the High Performance Coaching Team of the Year. The recreational award for the Gymstar Coaching Team Award was presented to the coaching team from Reach Gymnastics.

The VicHealth Inclusive Initiative of the Year was presented to Leongatha Gymnastics Club and their Disability Programs. The Newest Inclusive Leader was awarded to Knox Gymnastics Club, while the Inclusive Leader of the Year was presented to Taylah Palmer from Casey Gymnastics.

Gymnastics Victoria CEO Jamie Parsons commented on the growth of the event, and how much it means to celebrate outstanding members of the community.

“This is the biggest celebration of Gymnastics in Victoria to date, with over 600 people in the room. It is a fantastic opportunity for the Gymnastics community to come together to celebrate the achievements of the previous year,” Jamie said.
